Reasons for Hope
Psalm 130:5 "I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, and His word do I hope."
They said no news is good news and that gives me hope! Hope is faith in things unseen and right now my faith lies in the odds that four babies dying in one year are slim. First, we had the precious little filly of Boxer's die from a ruptured bladder that occurred at birth. Then, we had a nice Super Saver yearling die from what the vets believe was a ruptured small intestine. It was very sudden and hard to believe. Thursday morning proved to be another "hard to believe" scenario. I was doing the morning feeding and found our sweet little Candy dead in her stall. There was no sign of colic or struggle and the 4 month old filly was gone. In a matter of just 10 hours she went from a hungry weanling to what could have been. This was the same filly that curiously sucked your nose and bucked and played with abandon just hours old. We assisted with her birth and watched as she took her first steps and drank her first meal. She was tall and flashy and proved to have the potential for a great life.
The news we don't want to hear is that the colt that is in the hospital fighting for his life with the help of specialty vets has made a turn for the worse. Sonny was discovered early Friday morning with what appeared to be the same sickness that took the filly's life the day before. He was in some sort of toxic shock and was very dehydrated and weak. An on call equine vet was able to replenish enough fluids to help him perk up some, but he began to dehydrate and go downhill by late afternoon. We decided to haul him to the hospital and that is where he is currently stable, but not out of the woods.
In the meantime, we have disinfected the barn the best we could and are monitoring the rest of the horses in that particular barn. So, we wait! Wait for updates on Sonny, wait for the test results that will tell us the cause of this sickness. While we wait, we hope! Hope for the future of our foals and hope for the outcome to be promising!
I know God doesn't promise we will have a life without trials and tribulation. In fact, He pretty much guarantees we will have trials and tribulation. With this guarantee, is a promise of salvation from the One who has overcome this world full of trials and tribulations (John16:33). Jesus, He is our true hope!
Psalm 33 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
1 Sing for joy in the Lord, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings.
3 Sing to Him a new song;
Play skillfully with a shout of joy.
4 For the word of the Lord is upright,
And all His work is done in faithfulness.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord.
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And by the breath of His mouth all their host.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap;
He lays up the deeps in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
9 For He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.
10 The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations;
He frustrates the plans of the peoples.
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
The plans of His heart from generation to generation.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.
13 The Lord looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of men;
14 From His dwelling place He looks out
On all the inhabitants of the earth,
15 He who fashions the hearts of them all,
He who understands all their works.
16 The king is not saved by a mighty army;
A warrior is not delivered by great strength.
17 A horse is a false hope for victory;
Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength.
18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope for His lovingkindness,
19 To deliver their soul from death
And to keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart rejoices in Him,
Because we trust in His holy name.
22 Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us,
According as we have hoped in You.
